6 Tips to Use Social Networking More Effectively to Find Your Next Job
On October 28, 2010 I left my last job and had a number of interviews lined up by November 4, 2010. A month later, during a 7 day period, I had 6 serious inquiries into my availability with the result of 2 second interviews and 1 job offer. In a few weeks I will most likely return to Iraq with a significant pay increase. How did I do it? I used online social networking.
Online social networking will not get you a job alone. You still must have the right expertise, a great resume and above average interview skills. However, it will make meeting the right person who knows of an open position that much easier. Read more
How To Get Results from a Job Board
About a decade ago, job boards were the new kid in town as far as the hiring game goes. They advertised during the SuperBowl. They transformed the job seeking landscape so much so that some of the traditional ways of finding a job have disappeared from the minds and activities of most job seekers.
But ten years later, the job boards have lost their appeal. Too many job seekers don’t get any results from them. No responses. No interviews. No job offers. Overseas Contractor Count For Fourth Quarter 2010
This update reports DoD contractor personnel numbers in theater for the fourth quarter of 2010. It covers DoD contractor personnel deployed in Iraq (Operation New Dawn (OND), Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), and the U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) area of responsibility (AOR).
Previously for the 4th quarter FY 2010, USCENTCOM reported approximately 194,405 contractor personnel working in the USCENTCOM AOR. Because aspects of the earlier census (which is a snapshot in time within the quarter), specifically the numbers in Afghanistan, appeared anomalous, a second count was undertaken. The revised count shows a total of 176,340 contractor personnel working for the DoD in the USCENTCOM AOR. This subsequent count reflects a reduction in both the number of US and TCN personnel in Afghanistan which had been previously reported. Read more

In general you want a well organized, error free, easy to read document outlining your experience and skills. The job seeker may need to customize a base line resume to fit a particular job you are applying for.
I found that most of the resumes I looked at had challenges in the following 6 areas: Read more
Can’t Get Hired through a Firm’s Career Page? Then Get LinkedIn!
As the unemployment rate drew worse last week, I’m sure more and more people are looking at the overseas defense contractor job market to stay employed.
I know that is true of the 200 former military and contractor logisticians I spoke with last week at Ft. Hood, TX. I would say more than 75% of the job seekers I spoke with last week asked me how to find an overseas position.
One common aggravation I overheard was how much time was spent on filling out applications only to never receive feedback one way or another on the position. Read more
