What is DangerZoneJobs.com? Is it a just a job board?

I started DangerZoneJobs.com in January 2005,  both to offer a site that would help busy contractors with their job search, and more importantly, to provide a place where they are taken seriously, providing news and information that would help them with their overseas careers.

I spent 16 years in Kuwait, from 1992-2008, most of the time as co-owner of a subcontractor that supplied various services to both the US military and the contractors supporting them.

This experience gave me an extensive understanding of the problems faced by the men and women who accept overseas jobs and the challenges they go through to work abroad.

Because of the relatively high salaries and the tax benefits involved, plus the increased use of cheaper employees from countries other than the United States, overseas contracting is a very competitive job market.

The days of just submitting an application and waiting by the telephone are long gone. You have to actively be doing a lot of things to find an overseas contracting job.

Danger Zone Jobs is designed to help you with all the steps of a successful overseas job search:

This video shows the overseas job search process and how Danger Zone Jobs can help you with it.

And the process is described below.

In your search for overseas contracting jobs, you 'll need to:

Find out which companies hire your job field

We follow more than 225 companies that hire for overseas jobs and offer a tool that you can search company profiles by more than 60 different job categories.

Find out which companies have jobs available now

Every week we publish a list for our members of the companies that have actual jobs listed on their sites for Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and so on. Imagine the time you can save.   For   F For

Apply to the right companies the way they want you to

To do this, most companies require you to visit their career center and use their in house applicant system. You would need to find it for each company. But we've done it for you. You'll save tons of time with the one-stop job search tool, a convenient means going directly to the employment pages of over 230 different company websites. One click is all it takes.

Stay current on what's happening in the contracting industry

Several times daily I check various sources for contracting information, updates and news important to members. This includes:

•Company Mergers/Sales   •Company News   •LOGCAP IV    Developments   •Working Overseas   •Money, Taxes and Insurance   •Current Work Conditions   •Casualties   •Crimes and Investigations   •Future Outlook of Contracting   •Lawsuits   •New Regulations, Laws and Government Oversight

Stay current on new and pending contracts

Every work day at 5pm, the Department of Defense publishes contract awards that are $5 million or greater. We review all of them and immediately post those that affect overseas contractors.

We scan company websites daily for any new press or investor releases on awarded or upcoming contracts.

We review daily contract protests published by the Government Accountability Office and post those affecting overseas contractors.

Every Sunday night, we post combat zone related Contract Bids, Requests for Expression of Interest, Awards, Supplements and Amendments that have been publicized for the previous week, including CENTCOM AOR, Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and others, from various agencies.

Network with others

Danger Zone Jobs has a members only forum where people can ask questions and find answers. If you've been on other forums, you know that some of them can get pretty nasty. But not ours. Because everyone is a member, the discussions are civil and helpful.

Use our member's only job board

For the convenience of our members, we also have a full-feature job board, which allows you to: Build your resume, Post your resume, Create email job alerts and Apply to posted jobs ….

Is Danger Zone Jobs a scam?

I understand why people are worried about spending their hard-earned money online. And usually when someone asks this, it turns out that it's because they don't clearly understand what DZJ is or does (my fault, I have to explain it better). But to keep it simple, DZJ is not a scam. Yes, there is a one time fee to join, and I think the hard work I put into the site makes it a very good deal.

But if you don't like the site, if you think it's not for you, there is a 30-day full money back guarantee that I honor immediately and without questions.

Another reason I think some people call DZJ a scam is that they think everything on DZJ can be found somewhere else online for free.

So what about the idea that everything's free? I asked some of the members in our forum:

I wanted to ask a question since you've all paid to become members. How would you answer someone who said to you "Don't join DZJ! It's a scam! All this information is available for free on the web!" ?

Of course, I get emails with a lot worse in them. Sometimes I think to myself, "you always have the option of not joining, so why get so nasty about it?"

I think we have a good thing going here at DZJ, especially here in the forum. I'm always looking for find new ways to add value to the site, and I still kind of take it personally when someone says or writes this. I've made DZJ my job, which is to help others find their job. Why should that service be free?

Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts if you have the time.

And thanks for being members! Bill

Here are some of their responses, exactly as written:

Can you get some of this info on the net sure, but it cuts a crap load of time by having companys hghlighted that are hiring. I have 4 offers and due to leave next month, I got the info from this site. I have learned invaluable information from operators that I would have never gotten anywhere else. It is worth the 49, I think the ones that have really vulger things to say could not get picked up any way and blame it on DZJ.

The value is the information AND networking potential. I have made contacts here that have proved to be INVALUABLE. It took time and searching, (2 years worth) but I made it back before the end and don't plan on leaving this time around. Actually I'm looking for more "long term" opportunities as we speak.

If not for this site I would have not gotten the op that I have now to go back over to Iraq before it is all over there and thanks to DZJ.com I got my start in contracting overseas…I use to spend hours searching the web and for example I didn't know who KBR was til I got here…..thanks for all your hard work!!

How can this be a scam? I like being able to come to one place to see the news of contracts and other things. I have learned a lot about contracting in Iraq and Afg since I have subscribed.

I wish the forums were a little more active. But, not a scam for sure. As a matter of fact, I just seen a bunch of jobs for my prime contracting company on the jobs section. I didn't even know they were advertising for jobs in Afg.

The "Companies that are hiring" document is great. I'd like to see some more of those on a weekly basis. No complaints here. Keep up the great work.

I can see how you could take it personally but in my opinion people like this are basically mad at the world and have nothing better to do then try to start trouble for others…if this site was a scam why would there be people using it and being active members for years….I personally owe my career as a contractor to this site and the people on it….KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!

Can't you find alot of the information free somewhere else ?

Yes, definitely. All basic raw information is free if you are willing to trade enough time to discover it.

We collect and collate some of the best information, advice and sources around, and present it to you in a way that you can quickly deal with and act on.

There are bits and pieces of it in dozens of different websites, books, journals, trade publications, and in papers and magazines.

And, if you care to spend the hours daily looking for it, you can get most of it free.

But is it really free?

The first thing you need to consider is the amount of time and effort spent tracking down the information you're looking for.

Your leisure time is important. The last thing you want to do is waste it in front of a computer trawling through hundreds of pages and emails trying to find some useable information.

Danger Zone Jobs acts as your personal filter: processing all that "free" information into something you can use, saving you tons of time.

Can you spare hours everyday to do the same? Now you don't need to.

So do people ask for refunds? Why do they ask for them? How do I get a refund?

Yes they do, and as I mentioned above, I always honor our 30-day money-back guarantee immediately and without question.

  • If you need a refund, just send me an email and I'll process it immediately. No questions asked and you don't need to give an explanation. Just let me know what your order number is if possible.

The requests for refunds usually are because the person didn't feel they were qualified for the jobs posted ( or the contracting field in general) or they thought the site would just be a list of posted available jobs where they pay their money and bam, the next day they have a job offer. No job search is that easy, and we certainly don't guarantee that someone will find a job through our site.

Here's an actual report of the refunds issued since I started the site in 2005. The refund ratio means that out of every 100 orders about 3.33 people ask for a refund.

I think that's a very small amount and says something about how the other 97 customers view the site's value:

Do you have to renew this or is it a one-time membership?

This is a one-time membership and you never need to renew.

This a one-time membership to Danger Zone Jobs is a subscription to a great service that never ends.

If you find yourself looking for another job a few months or 2 years from now, we'll still be a resource for you to go back to.

If you ever lose your username/password, we'll be happy to send it to you immediately, no matter where you are.

Remember Danger Zone Jobs is a full-time business.

Not a hobby, not something we will get bored with. Not something to only update when the mood strikes.

Look at some of the sites that try to copy us. You'll see the difference instantly.

The most important thing our site offers is time-saving convenience and a wealth of useful information. You've heard "time is money" and it's really true when you're looking for your next job.

So, $49 (only once, and never expires) seems like a fair price for all the benefits.

Think of it like this…

The longer you use the site, the cheaper and more valuable it is:  $49 divided over 2 or 3 or 4 years…

Danger Zone Jobs started in January 2005, so those early members are really getting their money's worth.

How does the order process work?

Very simple. First you'll go to our Join page to create a username and password (make sure you choose the NEW MEMBER option):

When you finish with your username/password creation, click on continue and you will be on our secure order page which is processed by Plimus, a leading e-commerce company.

At the bottom of the order form, you will have several options for payment:

If necessary, Plimus may manually review/check your order. This can happen if you are ordering from overseas with your stateside credit card. If you should have any problems with your order, let me know by email and I will help.

After your order is processed and approved by Plimus, your account is activated and you can login as a member. This is usually immediate, unless your order is being reviewed.

Are there jobs available that don't require a military background?

There are considerable resources, tools and information on the site, and to be honest it requires using the site through the eyes of your own background.

My suggestion would be to try the site and see if it fits your needs and credentials. There are many jobs in different fields that don’t require a military background. But again it depends on the job (and your particular background).

Trying the site will give you a chance for example to read through and use the forum, the job board and all the other resources we have.

If you find that DZJ is not suitable for you, I honor all refund requests immediately and without question, which allows you to give it a fair trial risk free.

I'm having trouble posting my resume (or other issues with the career center/job board section)

Is Danger Zone Jobs only for security related jobs?

No we provide information for all career fields that are overseas contracting related. On our company profile search tool, there are currently 60 different categories listed.

How many people are members of Danger Zone Jobs? Did any find jobs through the site?

We switched over to a new login system in July 2010 and asked all previous members to recreate a new username and password so that member numbers can be seen by everyone at the bottom of the forum. As of today, May 22, 2011, it looks like this (which is about half the number of actual members since 2005):

I have no figures for how many people found jobs as a result of using DZJ, but I get emails all the time from people saying they did. Plus if you are member you can ask that question in the forum and will get a lot of people saying yes.

I'm a member of DZJ since 20xx , so how do I sign up for a new username and password for the new login system?

1.  Existing members (those who joined before July 13, 2010 and never registered for the dicussion forum) need to create their new username and password for the new login system. This is done here at the new signup page.

2. Fill out all the boxes. I will check these signups manually against our member records, so it is important to use the same name that you originally joined with.

The second thing is to be sure to include any other emails you might have used originally. You can do this in the bottom two boxes.

3.  Just click continue and that's it. I will manually check and approve your signup as quickly as possible. Please email me if you have any questions or problems with the signup.
