Where Does Overseas Contracting Stand Today, Part 2- Industry Trends
April 3, 2010 · Posted in Overseas Contracting Outlook
The first part of this series looked at the breakdown of contractor numbers in the CENTCOM area of responsibility. This part looks at some of the responses from 1150 contractors to our 2010 market survey on the state of industry on several issues. I have kept them in chart format so they are easy and quick to read.

This survey may need to be taken again. I know of a lot of people who will agree that the pay and benefits have been cut sharply. There are companies here in Kuwait now that would like to pay less than what you can make in the States for the same job. This baffles me. Plus the cost of living here has at least doubled in the past two years. Prices here are unbelievable. Yet these companies still want to drop our pay. If this continues on the next contract I will not be able to afford to work here any longer. Afghanistan may not be much better. I just received a job offer there for working 7 days 12 hour shifts for 40,000 USD a year. This included a 15 day vacation package. I kindly declined the job. But I was sent a message back saying he had a line out the door willing to accept this pay package.
